The concept of empowerment over oppression has been a central theme in the fight for human rights around the world. As global citizens become more aware of the many ways in which individuals and groups are oppressed by systems of power, calls for action to empower those who are marginalized are becoming increasingly urgent.
This movement towards empowerment is not just about making individuals stronger – it is also about changing the systems of oppression that exist in society. By giving marginalized groups a voice and the tools they need to effect real change, we can create a world in which human rights are respected and protected for everyone.
In many cases, the fight for empowerment over oppression has taken the form of grassroots movements and advocacy campaigns. These initiatives work to raise awareness of the issues faced by marginalized groups and to mobilize individuals to take action in support of their human rights.
One notable example of this type of activism is the #MeToo movement, which began in 2017 as a way to raise awareness of sexual harassment and assault. This movement quickly spread around the world, empowering survivors to share their stories and demand justice for themselves and others.

As journalists, it is our responsibility to amplify the voices of those who are fighting for empowerment over oppression, and to hold those in power accountable for their actions (or lack thereof) in support of human rights. By shining a light on these critical issues, we can help to create a world in which all individuals are free to live their lives on their own terms, without fear of oppression or injustice.
